Rose’s Meat Market and Sweet Shop is a combined restaurant and bakery. Our Food is influenced by the cuisines of China, Japan and the rest of East Asia. We use North Carolina ingredients to produce dishes that embody the strong food cultures from across the Pacific that we find awe inspiring.

Our sweets, ice creams, and ice cream sandwiches are all made in house and inspired by what is in season in central North Carolina.

justinJustin and Katie Meddis were trying to plan how they could have their careers, see each other and help make a difference. Justin is a chef and butcher, and Katie a pastry chef. They decided to combine forces and open a meat & sweet shop. Thus, the concept of Rose’s was born.

The idea grew and grew until they decided to move to Durham. Upon arrival, they hit the ground running. Visiting farms, doing pop-up dinners, farmers market demos, butchery classes, testing recipes, all the while researching local meat and other ingredients.

Justin and Katie are passionate about working with and selling high quality, local, pasture raised meats and using local, sustainable ingredients.


Parking in our area of downtown Durham can be tricky but there are street parking options as well as lots for our customers. There are street parking spaces and residential 2 hour spaces on all the streets surrounding the shop on Main Street, Albemarle Street, West Morgan Street, Lamond Street and Gregson Street. All are within a short walking distance.

Parking is available in the Brightleaf lot across the street for free after 5pm weekdays and all day Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

We also have a parking lot in front of our restaurant that we share it with The Mid-South Fencers and The Retreat. The spaces are large enough to fit two cars. If you are going to be quick and just pick up an order or some sweets, please feel free to park behind someone in any open spot. If you are going to be dining with us for a little while please pull forward to so that someone can park behind you quickly. Please do not block anyone in if you are staying longer than a few minutes.
