Justin and Katie Meddis were trying to plan how they could have their careers, see each other and help make a difference. Justin is a chef and butcher, and Katie a pastry chef. They decided to combine forces and open a meat & sweet shop. Thus, the concept of Rose’s was born.
The idea grew and grew until they decided to move to Durham. Upon arrival, they hit the ground running. Visiting farms, doing pop-up dinners, farmers market demos, butchery classes, testing recipes, all the while researching local meat and other ingredients.
Justin and Katie are passionate about working with and selling high quality, local, pasture raised meats and using local, sustainable ingredients.
We work with local farms to source the freshest meat and butcher it in-house. All animals are pasture-raised.
We prepare fresh pastries daily. Our selection varies from day to day, but our offerings include fresh fruit galettes, buttermilk panna cotta with fresh fruit jams, bittersweet chocolate pots de crème, meringues, macarons, homemade caramels, bread puddings and cookies.

Looking for a special cut? Feeding a large group? We can help. Just give us 24 hours notice on special orders and please note we require a deposit of $1 per pound.
If you have a special occasion or pastry request please call the shop 72 hours in advance to discuss your pastry needs.
Sandwiches feature all of our own house made ingredients. We smoke/roast/cure everything on the menu below all from local pasture raised meats. All of the produce comes from local farms. The sandwiches come on our house made toasted sourdough bread. They are cut and arranged on platters with pickes.
Cost is $10 per person
(Minimum order is eight people)
We offer one seasonal salad for party platters. Please ask for info on current offering, we can work with you to create something you like.
A good example could be: Roasted Squash Panzanella with fresh herbs and Arugula.
Our charcuterie platters feature our sliced cured meats, pickles, and mustard. Everything on our Charcuterie platters is made in house (with the exception of the chees options). Our options are based on our current availability but we always have at least 10 different items available. We always have at least one pate, a couple smoked sausages, a smoked or roasted ham just to name a few. We are always willing to work with you on what will be on your platter.
Cost is $5 per person
House made sourdough toast points $.75 per person
We can add local cheese from Boxcarr Creamery or Chapel Hill Creamery
Add $1.50 per person
Gingersnaps, Chocolate Wafers, Lemon Sugar Cookies
$.25 per cookie
$2.25 each or could be made smaller upon request
Fennel, Salted or Cinnamon $.75 each
All orders require at least a three day notice. The fastest way to get your order in is to call the shop so we can work out the details with you by phone (or just come in person!)
We ask for a 24 hour notice to change/cancel an order

If you are under the minimum we are happy to work with you to get a smaller amount of our daily sandwich menu/charcuterie/pastry options.
